All our Unjacketed Fiber is made from PMMA Polymethylmethacrylate plastic, NOT GLASS fiber. We have it in sizes starting at .25mm or .010" up to 3mm or .125"
The fibers used in all Sideglow Stranded Cables is made with the same .75mm PMMA fiber. ONLY when you over-drive it with a Lot of light will the light leek out of the protective cladding on a fiber and create what is called SIDEGLOW fiber, there is no difference between the fibers in a Sideglow and our Unjacketed fibers. So please don't call looking for unjackted Sideglow fibers.
There is what is called Fiber Ribbon and Fiber Optic Fabric. The fibers are the same but may have the cladding lightly sanded off.
The following Fibers are POF (Plastic Optical Fibers) Not Glass! Plastic is easy to work with and cut, and less expensive. They can be used for everything from: Models, Lamps, Layouts, Stars, Illumination of signs, Data links, Automotive, Science projects, etc. The Attenuation is measured with 1.0 mm diameter fiber at 650 nm collimated light. Typical (0.18 dB/m) , Refractive index-Clad (1.402), Core (1.492), Aperture (0.51), Temp. Range (-55C~70C)
